On the Halls

The Halls are peculiar spaces lying on other than the three-dimensional axis. They are places where a certain force prevails, or directly rules, and this force determines the character of the space. In Urulóka, in the wide world, these forces are intermingled, but within the Halls, one always surpasses the others. Those who do not understand the true nature of the Halls may believe that the individual spaces have nothing in common; however, the wise have discovered that all Halls, though vastly different in appearance, share a common structure.

The Halls are independent spaces intertwined with Urulóka. They connect to the plain of Urulóka through the Fragrance, weave themselves into it by means of the Antechamber, and are fully present at the very apex of the Threshold. The force flowing from them lends its light, taste, and beauty to Urulóka, acting as a thread that contributes to the whole. Whoever walks into a Hall walks toward the source from which that force flows. They walk into the realm of that force.

A peculiar property tied to the Halls is the “Unfolding Carpet,” a phenomenon experienced by anyone who encounters a Hall. The unfolding of the carpet manifests such that as a traveler begins to approach a Hall (or a Hall approaches the traveler), every step brings them closer to it—even if they turn directly back and wish to move away. The carpet of the Hall unfolds further into the depths before the traveler, regardless of which way they turn; the only way to return from a Hall and truly “turn back” is to resist the force of the Hall. Yet, few can achieve this unless they are initiates.

The Halls are countless in number, though the great and powerful among them are not as many. It is said that there are “High” Halls, those which are by their nature situated higher than most of Urulóka, and then there are “Deep” Halls, which lie “below” the plane of the wide world. Among the High Halls are the Solar and the Stellar. The Forest Hall is entirely neutral, and the highest of the Deep Halls is the Lunar.
