The most distant race about which anything is known at all. Yet, very little is truly understood, as all contact with them was severed ages ago. Long ago, the Antipodeans were invited into the territories of the known world by the then-ruling Elves; this sparked unrest and terror among most other races and ultimately led to a war between them and the Elves. The Antipodeans were, quite simply, too “other” to be accepted.

From the little that is still remembered about the Antipodeans, the following can be noted: they are a race founded upon symbiosis with fungi. Just as the continents of the known world are covered by forests and meadows, the continents of the Antipodeans in the Far South are covered by immense forests of mushrooms.
Many races once lived in the South, but over time, aggressive fungi consumed them. Only the Antipodeans managed to survive in this hostile environment because they developed a system of fungal initiation. In this process, they allow specific strains of symbiotic fungi to penetrate their bodies in a controlled manner. These symbionts grant them certain abilities and, crucially, protect them against the toxins and attacks of the wild fungi within the “myco-forests” of the South.
Antipodeans live in protected cities, and only the initiated may leave these cities to venture beyond their borders. The physical appearance of the Antipodeans is unknown; while certain depictions can be found in the manuscripts of Northern libraries, most appear to be pure fantasy—various monsters with heads between their legs, seven heads, or beings with tentacles and crocodile jaws. No reasonable person, it seems, believes such tales.
